Absolutely fantastic little stepper drive. Runs fast, cool and quiet, and very easy to interface with step/direction control. If you plan on doing lots of quick stopping, I'd definitely recommend the "clamp" for the power supply, since on my setup, stopping too quickly spikes the DC bus and faults my PSU. I would buy these over any simple stepper drive I've ever used. Although I haven't attempted to "destroy" one yet, I can say the performance is every bit as good as the "geckodrive" and possibly with quieter slow speed movement (owing to mire microsteps perhaps?) As far as high speed operation, they only go to 65V (as opposed to the Gecko's 80), so I can't say for sure how well they work, but that ceiling is a LONG ways from where I am, and probably from where YOU are, and I actually don't think the extra 15 volts is going to make a huge difference. I'm running at 48, and suffice to say, unloaded, I can get a triple-stack NEMA34 to positively haul ass. Kontraptionist says TWO THUMBS UP!

Well constructed stepper. Quick connector eliminates wiring errors. High torque in a small footprint.

This unit failed and has not been able to be recovered. I purchased all of the components from this company as suggested, and yet the unit suffered terminal OVERCURRENT failure. Way to expensive for a unit that lasted just past the warranty, even though real time use was around 100 hours. Not a dependable item.

In response to the previous poster with the RS-232 issue (Don). I had the same issue but hooked up the Sure Step software and captured the serial commands it sends for test mode. I added the following commands based on what the sure step sends the drive to my PLC program and it works every time. Send QT them HRCM then SK then CM21. If you do this, it will communicate after a power up all of the time. I do not know what QT or HRCM is, but Sure Step sends it and this makes everything work.

At first, I wondered why the motors didn't come with longer cables and why I had to buy an extention cable. Now, after several installation, I can offer a good reason: The cable will be a permanent part of the machine while the motor can simply be removed and unplugged for service or replacement without cutting and splicing cables. Smart thinking on someones' part!

This is a sweet product. I have used them on many projects. I DO warn you to set the current FOR you motor/model because if you don't you may find that the motor won't turn under certain accelerations or loads. I don't remember what the default setting is but verify the setting with the current required for your motor and application. The enclosed pamphlet gives you a very good explanation of all of the settings.

At the moment the electronic side is very good; but the mechanic. The screws that hold the cabling is very weak, and not always holds the cable very well.
