I love the ports and ease of communication to other devices. Wonderful help files and some good examples too. I like the math instructions you can write equation in the instruction block just like the click. The addition of some ziplink wiring blocks and you cant go wrong! wiring is a breeze prelabeled and straight forward I was able to install and rewire in just one day.

At first, it did not auto configure the remote rack. We also did not get a link light and the CPU inidicator was glowing red. Automation Direct goes into some detail about how easy it is when it works, but hardly anything about when it doesn't. We worked on it over the weekend so we did not have the benefit of technical support. We were faced with calling on Monday morning but we got it to work by slapping it around a little bit (hate to admit that, sort of like spanking a new born baby). Therefore, I'm giving a "fair" on quality. If you set a new node number in response to no comms, the data base will be populated with a missing remote rack that will have to be purged or redone with a new file to keep down the number of trash tags. Once we got it to work, everything was good though.

We have integrated 150+ of these in the last year. A few minor quality issues/bugs we have had to work through now and then but AutomationDirect support has always be all over any issue to provide a solution. The Productivity Suite software does not have some of the features that someone coming from a Rockwell background might wish to have and/or miss; however, Productivity Suite does have some awesome instruction blocks that simplify your ladder programming for many application requirements. We have some techs on our service and support team with relatively little programming experience who are able to work proficiently with Productivity Suite. Ease of Use is A+. Our application uses every single communication port either as normal operation or as optional features that can be enabled, the P3-550 is a communication power house! We find it a great fit for our application.

A little quirky, especially the programming software. The format for the ladder could be a displayed a little better. Documentation and help files could use a little more work, had to call a few times with simple things, even after watching the tutorials on-line. A more comprehensive training should be available. I would like to have a way to assign variables manually (it may already be able to do that...) I also wish it was compatible with the direct net Ethernet. I do like the format and the power of the processor. I'm a quite certain a few revisions to tweak the product in will result in a quality product. A little more training I'm sure will also help.

The unit is good as is, but could really use a few things like a TDODE timer function, bitwise access, the ability to change registers from the LCD, and the ability to have different timing ranges in the simple timer like the regular timer has.

A Programmable Automation Controller (PAC) should distinguish itself from an ordinary PLC by supporting full IEC-61131 programmability, in my opinion. To call it a PAC otherwise is a stretch.

The communication options offered on this processor are a welcome treat. This processor is cheaper than most ENET option cards. I like the tag based structure and 32 bit offering as well. There are several new (to me) instructions that make programming a little faster; the different timers, flasher, ramp, and ramp generator. The instructions save lots of ladder logic. The help file in the s/w is great. This CPU and s/w are pretty amazing. When you consider the price! Unbeatable. I have this system slated for a few projects and will comment more after commissioning.
