This is a good choice to 'see' clear parts as they get close. If you can't use a proxy switch due to lack of metal, this is the easiest choice.

Please use a POT to adjust the sensitivity. The push button adjustment is confusing for my customer's maintenance people.

Avoid this sensor if you're using AC Drives. I've used a lot of Automation Direct, AB, and IFM sensors in the past and have several different types on the shelf (we're an OEM). During a recent project, I needed something compact and this sensor size and sensing distance fit the bill. Unfortunately, it has issues if there's an AC drive running anywhere nearby. First I had the 110V GS2 drive running on the same 110V circuit powering the 24VDC supply that was supplying power to the sensor and DL06 PLC it was connected to. As long as the AC Drive was off, the sensor functioned as it should. As soon as you turn on the AC Drive, the sensor goes nuts and starts sending many, many signals back to the PLC that it's reading something. Turn off the AC Drive and the sensor stops "seeing" anything. All grounds are proper. I removed the sensor from the grounded mount and insulated it from the machine, and same thing. I then changed over to a 220V GS1 AC Drive connected to a completely different circuit. Same problem. I then spaced the AC Drive a few feet away on the floor while the PLC & PS was up on a table. Same problem. I called Tech Support and was told I should probably put the sensor cable in conduit to shield it. What? Never had to do that with any other sensor. Since the pinouts are the same, I removed this sensor and hooked up one of ADC's Eaton sensors. Worked fine with the AC Drive on. Tried an IFM sensor I had on the shelf, and it worked fine, too. Tried a second of these sensors (I had ordered 5), and it had the same problem. So I'm convinced these things are improperly shielded or really can't handle line noise of any kind. Haven't had an opportunity, but these will be RMA'd ASAP.
