Vortex flow sensors provide a cost-effective solution for fluid flow monitoring. They measure flow rate by detecting the frequency of vortices shed from a non-streamlined obstacle (bluff body) placed in the flow path. The vortex shedding frequency is directly proportional to the fluid flow rate.

Vortex flow sensors measure the frequency of vortices shed by a bluff body placed in the path of a flowing fluid. The bluff body is a small obstruction that causes the fluid to flow around it in alternating vortices. The frequency of this vortex shedding is directly proportional to the flow rate of the fluid.

ProSense VFS series vortex flow sensors are optimized to monitor the flow rate and temperature of water and deionized water in industrial applications. Relatively simple in design, they have no moving parts that can wear out, and are unaffected by the temperature or pressure of the measured fluid. They have a wide flow range, a low pressure drop, and are typically more cost-effective than other types of flow meters. VFS models offer easy pushbutton setup and a bright TFT color display.
