Thermocouples consist of two dissimilar metal wires joined at a hot junction; as temperature changes, a millivolt signal is generated. The most common alloy combinations are known as type J and type K thermocouples (ANSI/IEC code). Advantages of thermocouple sensors include low cost, small size, wide temperature ranges and faster response (than RTDs). Many installation styles are available.

The 1/2NPT process connection threads are terrible. Threads tapered too wide to fully seat/engage proper NPT spec female threads.

These Thermocouples are very easy to use, and very useful in many applications. The only problem that we have found is that if you tighten them down you will have erratic readings from the sensor. Many times it will settle at one temperature and not read accurately. We found that when they are tightened (we tried on 3 different units) they will basically ground out the sensor. The fix for this is to insulate the sensor and braided cable with heatshrink all the way through the entrance to the control box you are terminating in. We will be testing the Unground version of this sensor to see if it has the same issues.
