Surge protection devices protect electrical equipment from transient voltage spikes and surges in power, control, PLC I/O, and data and signaling applications. Type 1 through 4 SPDs are available in panel and DIN-rail mounting styles with ratings up to 600 VAC and 20 kA nominal discharge current.

Surge protection devices (SPDs) protect electrical and electronic equipment from damage caused by voltage spikes. SPDs are available in a wide range of types, including:
- Type 1 SPDs are installed at the power supply point of entry into a building or structure and are designed to protect against the highest levels of overvoltage
- Type 2 SPDs are installed downstream of Type 1 SPDs and protect against lower levels of overvoltage
- Type 3 SPDs are installed at the individual outlets of a building or structure and protect against the lowest levels of overvoltage
- Type 4 SPDs are installed near sensitive electronic equipment and provide additional protection against overvoltage

Surge-Trap® Type 1 STXR series devices meet requirements for UL1449 Fourth Edition and are ideal for the replacement of obsolete surge arrestors. The TPMOV® technology inside the STXR Series provides the highest level of safe operation.
