VFD cable organizes and protects variable frequency drive input and motor power wiring, and is designed to reduce VFD-related interference (EMI) on nearby equipment. These shielded multi-conductor cables have a black thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) outer jacket, and are available with 4 conductors in up to 2 AWG wire size. Order cable cut to your specified lengths, or in any bulk length.

VFDs generate disruptive electrical noise in the environment around them. The noise emitted can affect other devices such as electronic equipment, commercial grade Ethernet systems and instrumentation wiring. VFD cables combat that by utilizing grounding, shielding & insulation.
An improper cable connected to VFDs creates noise-related issues within the system and improperly terminated cables can release captured noise current. AutomationDirect/Southwire VFD cables offer both a ground conductor of equal to the size of the power conductors as well as separate drains for the shielding.
To avoid noise problems, VFD cable needs to be effectively shielded. Research suggests that shielding systems that include a combination foil & braid types are the most appropriate for VFD applications.
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation far surpasses PVC/nylon as an insulator for VFD cables because it can withstand voltages as much as 3x higher.
