let's look at the software layout for the xgp motion Control software from LS electric as a reminder the purpose of the xgp M software is to configure the motion axes that will be used by the xg5000 software for motion instructions we cover creating a project and getting connected to our motion controller in a separate video please refer to it for further details we already have an xgp M motion project created and we are online with our motion controller as as we look around the software window there are several key locations to gain information interface with our project and motion controller and monitor the system initially we have a row of menus as well as several icon toolbars at the top of the window on the left side we have the workspace or project window and below it the command tool window along the bottom of the screen we have the I/O variable monitor window on the left and the message window on the right once we get into programming motion other windows and popups will also be displayed as needed if we look at the icon toolbar more closely we see a drop down to select the motion controller as well as the access in that controller to which we wish to interface directly to the right of this we have an access stop and emergency stop icon we can use to stop the axis during motion right from the software interface this is a very useful feature during initial setup and commissioning as there may be times a move or profile doesn't execute like we expect being able to safely stop the pulse train will be key at in those situations please note that the emergency stop function in xgp software is not a replacement for a hardware at emergency stop please refer to your risk assessment to determine the safety needs for your application further to the right we have other functions some of the most useful are the reset error history and the reset error icons as well as the start and stop monitoring icon each icon has a tool tip when we Mouse over it so feel free to explore the other icons in these tool bars for more details on each the project window on the left side of the screen gives us information about our overall project we see the available axes listed and we can expand them to see more information about each this will be the primary way to interface with the various configuration settings for the project if we double click on system view it opens the system view window in the main programming area and allows us to monitor all axes simultaneously as we have yet to do any configuration this screen doesn't show us any information just yet if we double click on cam data it will open the cam data window this window allows us to configure up to eight cam blocks for more detail on camming please refer to the relevant help topics and product documentation if we double click on common parameter it will open the common parameter window this window will allow us to configure settings that will be used by every access in the motion controller for each access we have the position data and parameters items if we doubleclick on position data data it will open the position data window we see there are 400 position data steps with each step occupying a row this initial number is based on the number used during the project creation and is the maximum number of possible position data steps if we ever needed to subtract steps from this total we could go offline with the controller rightclick on the module on the project window and select properties this opens the module information popup screen which allows us to change the number of position data steps for the module this will apply to every access in the module and we would need to write the project back to the controller after changing the number we will leave the number at 400 for now and go back online with the controller lastly for the project window we can double click on parameter this opens the parameter window for the module all axes will be listed there and we are able to edit key parameters for any of these axes these parameters include acceleration deceleration maximum velocity and much more let's look at the command tool window it is located towards the bottom left of the screen and has several tabs with different information in them this window controls the axis listed in the toolbar above we have the option to control each axis individually or all six axis simultaneously with any of the command tool window functions the basic command tab includes manual controls like jogging or onetime moves with the extension command tab we can configure more advanced multi-axis integration functions such as speed synchronization camming Etc the modification command tab allows configuration of several axis parameters such as which step to start with from the position data table the teaching command tab is used to teach positional or speed data into a step finally the point command tab allows you to list a sequence of steps and then execute them in the order listed as we keep moving around the screen we see the I/O variable monitor window the state screen tab will show us any commands that this session of xgp has executed the external input signal tab will show us the status of external digital inputs that have been assigned as motion axis inputs for any of the motion input functions the monitor 1 and two Tabs are used by other LS electric motion products so we won't do anything with them here the final area on the screen is the lower right window called the message window there are nine tabs but we will only use the first two they are the error status and error history tabs the error status tab will give us any active errors with potential Diagnostics the error history tab will show a list of every error that has occurred since the history was last cleared if an error has been resolved it can be cleared with the reset error icon we looked at earlier and the history can be cleared with the reset error history icon we looked at the X GPM software allows for advanced multi-axis motion operations with a variety of profiles cam relationships and manual controls now that we have covered the overview of the software we are ready to start making some motion
