DURApulse GS4 Com Card Firmware Update from AutomationDirect

Before doing a com card firmware upgrade, go to parameter 9.44 and verify that you have the correct com card installed. Looks like I have the Modbus/TCP card installed. And while we are here, go to parameter 9.45 and note the current firmware version. Looks like we are at version 1.02. Remove power from the drive. To update the firmware in the GS4 family of communications cards, Remove the keypad and covers. This is where the com card goes. If your com card has this jumper, then you have what they call the NEW com card. This video is for that new com card. If you have the old card without that jumper then you want this video. Assuming you do have the new com card and you have removed power from the drive, jumper these two pins. This little guy comes with the com card but if you don’t have it, any jumper that securely shorts these two pins will do. Connect your computer to the com card using an Ethernet patch cord. This one from AutomationDirect or something like it will work if you don’t have one. Just make sure it’s a straight-through patch cord, not a cross-over cord. Apply power to the drive. Bring up the GSoft2 application – which you can download for free at the AutomationDirect.com website. Search for this part number to find it. If you haven’t done so already, download the com card firmware file from the AutomationDirect.com website too. The quickest way to find that is to do a search for MODTCP. Then click on the technical info tab. There it is. For the EtherNet/IP card, search for ENTIP. I know these websites change all the time, but hopefully, this will get you close. Download and unzip the firmware you need to a place on your hard drive where you can find it. In this video we are using the Modbus TCP firmware which we see is at version 2.02 compared to the 1.02 version we currently have in our card. In GSoft2, don’t connect to the drive - just click on the new com card button. You should see this pop-up in the browser. If not, then make sure your PC’s Ethernet port is set to this address. To do that on Windows 10, go to Ethernet settings, change Adapter settings, right-click on the adapter you are using, select Properties. Double click on TCP/IPv4 and make sure your dialog looks like this. Close out of all of that. Once you get your network set up and you see this webpage, click on Choose File and go to the firmware file you need. We want Modbus TCP version 2.02. Click on Update – it only takes a second or two. Remove power from the drive and remove the Ethernet cord. Remove the jumper. Replace the covers and the keypad. Apply power to the drive. Go to parameter 9.44 and make sure it still says it’s the card you think you have. This says it’s Modbus TCP which is what we expect. If you don’t see that, it’s usually because you forgot to remove the jumper. Go to parameter 9.45 and verify it’s now at the new firmware version.
