The XEM CPU has system flags that it uses to record important information about the status of various functions in the XGB PLC. They are there for you to use as feedback or for certain predefined control functions, such as enabling the high speed counter function for specific channels. These flags encompass system information, communications status, PID information, and High Speed I/O functions. To view pre-populated system flags, we are going to look at the “Global/Direct Variables” screen. To get there, we will go to the project browser on the left side of the screen and double-click on “Global/Direct Variables.” A new window opens for the Global/Direct variables. Once in this window we will go to the “Flag” tab to see PLC flags. The “Flag type” drop down can be used to select different types of PLC controlled flags. All variables for that type are then listed regardless of data type or memory address location. Each flag type, except the system flags, has a filter function as well. The function varies based on the flag variable type. For example, if you are in the "Positioning” type of flag variables, you can filter based on which axis or step number you want to view flag variables for. Other types have other filter functions specific to each type.
