Need to give access to your automation project, but not too much. Mer electronic panel interfaces let you connect externally without ever opening the enclosure. In this video, we'll show you how to install one so you can give your users access to the system without giving access to your system. Since we'll be cutting a hole in the enclosure, the first thing to decide is what connections you want to include. Automation Direct has nine insert combinations, including connections for RJ45, RJ12, 9 and 15 pin DUB, USB, as well as power. As long as one of those inserts have the connections you need, you're all set. If you're not sure which combination is best, the double frame housing gives you the flexibility to mix and match. When you've decided which inserts you need, pull out the documentation included in the interface frame. On page two, it gives exact dimensions for the cutout. In order to install the housing securely, the hole must be cut as precisely as possible. Pull out the housing and lift the front cover. Here you'll see three screws. These are each attached to several securing tabs which will secure the housing to the enclosure. Loosen the screws until the tabs move freely and are horizontal. Once the housing is in place, tighten the screws until the tabs reorient and the housing is secure. Be sure not to overtighten. Holding the insert upright, the top has two tabs, but only one on the bottom. Slide the top in, making certain it's flush with the top. Keeping pressure on that top, push the bottom in until you hear a loud click. This indicates it's cure. Now, looking at it from the back, you'll see it secured itself with the three tabs, protecting it from being removed from the outside. From here, connecting the interface is as simple as connecting the cables. Be sure to secure the cables to avoid accidental disconnection. Next, insert the twist lock to secure the cover. Lastly, for the maximum protection of your connections, install the optional ABS touch protector. To install these, locate the two screws and L-shaped brackets. On the rear of the housing, you'll see two slots here and here. Insert the side of the L brackets with the square hole into these slots facing outward. Push in until you hear a click into place. Feed the cables through one of the slots on the touch protector. Lastly, place it over the housing, smaller side down, and secure it with the included screws. And that's it. You've now installed your Mer electronic panel interface and can easily connect to your system without opening the enclosure.
