The 2019 interactive GRITS trophy created by AutomationDirect allows you to simulate the end of the game by launching either the red rocket … or the blue rocket. And … if you hold one of the rockets in the launch position, and then switch to auto, the trophy automatically launches the rockets. This trophy design is unique because there are no electronics controlling any of this. These buttons switch airflow, not electric current. This selector switch also switches airflow. If I turn the trophy over, you can see when the piston comes down, it hits this pneumatic switch which switches the airflow in automatic mode to send the rocket back up. We’ve included a plumbing diagram that shows how all of this is connected. See if you can follow the airflow and figure out how it works! Of course, it depends heavily on proper air flow through the system, so there are also instructions telling you how to calibrate the airflow which will also give you some hints on how this works. For example, for this to work the rockets have to rise faster than they fall. See if you can figure out why that is! Imagine being able to control some of your robot functionality with pneumatics only circuits!
