sometimes we want to password protect our project programs and or PLC from being able to be updated or accessed without our knowledge the xg5000 software allows the addition of a password to prevent unauthorized access it is important to note that if we forget the password that we set there is no way to recover the project or the hardware please use caution with this feature let's first add a password to our entire project to do this we will rightclick on the main project name and select properties this opens the properties popup window we select the password Tab and type in the desired password in the password and confirm password Fields the check box below only applies to a different LS electric PLC Series so we can ignore it once we press okay the project will be password protected if we save this project and then try to reopen it we see that it requires the password to open if we wish to remove the password from a project that has been protected we open the project after inputting the password and go to the same properties window we go to the password tab type our password into the previous password field and press delete we can set a password for individual programs rather than the entire project the process is very similar we right click on the program name instead of the project name and then go to properties the program popup window opens and again we can go to the password Tab and type in our password and confirm it if we try and open the program or the local variables for that program we see both are not password protected if we wish to remove the password we simply go back to the program window and password tab we can type the password into the previous password field and press delete it is important to note that these steps will password protect a program that has been written to a PLC even if someone reads it back from the PLC setting the project password however only protects the offline project the project written to the PLC will still be able to be read back by someone else without a password to protect the PLC itself it is necessary to add a PLC password to do this we must be online with the PLC we go to online system Diagnostics PLC information this opens the PLC information lslc popup window we can go to the password Tab and type a password and then click change if we now close the project and attempt to open the project from the PLC we will be prompted for the password if we open the offline project and attempt to connect to the PLC it will also prompt us for the password if we ever need to remove the PLC password we connect to the PLC and enter the password we can then go to online system Diagnostics PLC information and click on the password tab if we type the password into the previous password field it will allow us to delete the PLC password whether we need to protect the offline project individual programs and or or the PLC itself the xg5000 software has password protection that will do the job
