Process Control and Measurement

Process control and measurement devices monitor variables such as pressure, flow, level, and temperature, providing signals to represent changing values or discrete (ON/OFF) outputs to indicate conditions such as limit thresholds or alarms. These signals enable monitoring and control, triggering actions in valves, actuators, or other devices to maintain optimal process conditions.

  • Pressure sensing devices measure pressure at a specific point in a process and may be used for monitoring or paired with a control device to perform functions such as opening or closing a valve to regulate pressure.
  • Flow sensing devices measure the flow rate (volume per unit of time) and/or consumption (total flow) of liquid traveling through a system.
  • Level sensors monitor the level of liquids, pellets, powders, and other similar products in tanks and process systems.
  • Temperature switches integrate sensing and a setpoint-tripped output; transmitters receive the measured variable from a sensor (or have an integral sensor) and convert it to an output more typically compatible with industrial monitoring or control devices; controllers combine sensing and control of the variable in one unit.
  • Vibration detection devices are used to monitor, analyze, and identify vibrations of industrial equipment, which may indicate a malfunction, pending failure, or process restriction.
  • Weight / force sensors, like load cells, provide  reliable measurement of compression, bending, and tension forces and are vital for weighing applications.
  • Other devices used for process control systems include displays for monitoring process values, signal conditioners, and process valves.

Temperature / Process Controllers

Process controllers take a signal from a temperature device, such as a thermocouple, RTD, or a pressure/flow/level sensor, and maintain a setpoint using a relay, voltage pulse, current, or linear voltage output (depending on model). Various controllers are available that support modes such as PID, ON/OFF, Ramp/Soak and Manual.

  • Basic and standard temperature controllers offer single-loop control of heating or cooling processes
  • Modular temperature controllers offer the same functionality as single-loop controllers but can be expanded with multiple modules to create a low-cost multi-loop temperature control system
  • Advanced process controllers accept analog and thermocouple signals for ON/Off or PID control of temperature, pressure, level or other applications
  • Accessories include mounting hardware, cables, and software
