High-speed systems requiring precise counting, timing, or motion need I/O that can process high pulse rates independent of the CPU scan. BRX high-speed I/O modules track or supply up to a 2MHz pulse rate for precision control. Other specialty modules are also available.

Today's PLCs need to communicate to numerous industrial devices including remote I/O, motor drives, servo controllers, operator interfaces, and oftentimes server-level PCs running various manufacturing related applications. These devices can all use different connection strategies and different communication protocols. Therefore, it's vital for machine builders and other users to install PLCs that can seamlessly connect with existing older networks as well as new ones, since each installation site can have very different communication needs.
The BRX PLC/CPU has several communications ports built-in, plus an optional POM slot. These ports support an assortment of industrial protocols including Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and MQTT. For most applications, the communication ports provided by the PLC/CPU is sufficient. To add capability or capacity, serial expansion modules are available to add up to 4 RS-422 or RS-232 serial ports.

BX-APAD active padding (filling) module emulates other BRX modules in the I/O configuration of a BRX system. It is configured in software to emulate the address space of a specific BRX module. The padding module can be used to reserve address space so that addressing in subsequent modules does not change if a module is removed. It also allows Intelligent module configurations and data structures to be emulated.

The BX-16TD2W DC output module with built-in diagnostics features individually configurable outputs that detect fault conditions such as open load (broken wire), over-temperature, and overcurrent (short circuit). When a fault is detected, the corresponding diagnostic input turns ON automatically and turns OFF once the fault is cleared.

High-Speed I/O (HSIO) modules are used to expand the BRX PLC's onboard HSIO capabilities or add high-speed I/O to the M series CPU. Three high-speed input/output modules are available with either sink, source, or differential I/O. BRX high-speed I/O modules can be used to track rapid encoder pulses, drive stepper motors, or can be configured for other counter/timer, axis/pulse, pulse-width-modulated or table-driven functions.
