Portable Cord
Portable cord (also called service cord) is a cable with multiple conductors used for electrical power connections that are not intended to be permanent. Applications for this cable often involve portable equipment such as power tools or temporary installations such as work site lighting. Cables from Helukabel and Southwire ensure high-quality, dependable installations, cut to length in one-foot increments, with minimum footage dependent on part number.
Commonly used UL and CSA designations for flexible portable cord include:
- S = Severe Service (600 volt cords)
- SJ = Junior Severe Service (300 volt cords)
- E = Thermoplastic Elastomer
- OO = Oil-Resistant Outer Jacket and Oil-Resistant Interior Insulation
- W = Weather and Water resistant (not the same W designation as the UL Type W portable cord also available)
The available Type Sxxx cords are listed by type based on the designations above. For example, Type SOOW cord would offer 600V capability, an oil-resistant outer jacket and insulation, as well as weather/water resistance.
UL Type W portable cord is also available, typically used for industrial and light- to medium-duty mining cable applications. This cord can also provide heavy-duty service as a power supply cable for AC systems (grounded and ungrounded), mobile and portable electrical equipment, motors, and batteries.

Type SOOW and SJOOW Portable Cord
SOOW and SJOOW portable cords from Helukabel provide:
