DC motors are designed for use with unfiltered SCR (Thyristor) type and PWM (pulse width modulated) type DC adjustable speed drives, and on across-the-line DC controls. DC motors are perfect for conveyors, turntables, anywhere adjustable speed and constant torque are required, or when dynamic braking and/or reversing are needed.

Industrial DC motors have historically been of the brush type with speed controlled by varying the amount of armature current. AC motor speed control is achieved by varying the frequency of the alternating current. DC motors are typically more efficient than AC motors and provide 100% rated torque from 0-100% of base speed. Their speed can be easily controlled with a simple analog DC drive.
