Flow sensors measure the flow rate of a fluid through a pipe or conduit and update monitoring systems or provide feedback for devices that perform functions such as adjusting a valve or starting a pump. Industrial flow sensors play a crucial role in industries or applications such as oil and gas, chemical processing, water management, HVAC, and many others. They provide accurate and reliable flow data, enabling operators to optimize processes, ensure product quality, and maintain safety standards. The choice of flow sensor depends on the specific application, fluid properties, flow range, and required accuracy.
Several devices with different operating principles can be used to detect flow:

Mechatronic flow sensors monitor liquid media and provide reliable flow detection and measurement for a variety of process applications. They provide precise flow measurements, are immune to rapid media temperature changes, and offer fast response times.
Magnetic-inductive flow meters reliably detect the flow rate of conductive media such as industrial water, drinking water, water-based coolants, water-glycol mixtures, and salt water. Magmeters feature numeric displays with selectable engineering units, no moving parts, and two selectable outputs.
Thermal flow sensors offer a cost-effective solution for monitoring water, glycol solutions, or airflow. These sensors measure temperature differential to determine the velocity of the media flowing past the probe. Flow or temperature output options include switch, frequency, or analog signals.
Vortex flow sensors provide a reliable solution for monitoring and displaying the flow and temperature of water and deionized water. They determine flow by measuring the frequency of alternating vortices that pass through the sensor and provide two selectable switch, frequency, or analog outputs.
Differential pressure transmitters offer accurate flow measurements of liquid, gases, or steam for industrial applications. Models sense up to 400 inches of water column to measure flow using primary differential pressure flow elements such as an annular pitot tube, orifice plate, or venturi tube.
Variable area mechanical flow meters provide a visual indication of flow rates for water or petroleum-based fluids. These simple devices, available in a variety of process connection sizes, are constructed of high-impact clear plastic with easy-to-read gallons/min (GPM) and liters/min (LPM) scales.
