Limit Switches
Limit switches from well-known brands such as Comepi, Eaton, IDEM, Metrol, and Schmersal, as well as our own AchieVe and AutomationDirect brands, are suitable for a wide range of presence sensing applications, including those in harsh environments, due to their ease of installation, reliable operation, and rugged design. Limit switches are typically used in physical contact applications that can cause wear and tear on the switch actuator and electrical contacts, so exceeding two operations per second should be avoided. When selecting a limit switch, consider the application and actuation method first, as they are often the primary determining factors. Limit switches are available in a variety of configurations, including the style of the actuator, type of movement, and object travel orientation.

Plunger Actuator
Limit switches
with a plunger actuator activate when an object or mechanism depresses the
plunger. These actuators can detect minuscule machine motion and are available
in types ranging from high-precision touch to heavy-duty IEC and NEMA-rated
switches. Select models offer manual or remote reset.
Plunger with Roller Actuator
Limit switches
with a plunger plus roller actuator activate when an object depresses the
plunger; the roller is useful for contour following or allowing objects to pass
easily. They are available in types ranging from micro-sized to heavy-duty,
with select models offering remote reset options.
One-Way Lever with Roller Actuator
Limit switches
with a one-way lever plus roller actuator activate when an object depresses the
lever to activate a plunger. The lever angle is designed for one-way travel;
the roller allows objects to pass easily. Models include micro-sized and
IEC-rated switches. Select models offer remote reset.
Lever Actuator
Micro limit switches with a lever actuator activate when an object depresses the top-mounted lever that is used to activate a plunger. Available with fixed or hinged levers, these small-dimension models offer reliable, repeatable contact closure and provide extremely long service life.
Lever with Roller Actuator
Micro limit switches with a lever plus roller actuator activate when an object depresses the top-mounted lever that is used to activate a plunger. The roller end of the lever allows for objects to pass freely. Available with fixed or hinge levers, these small-dimension models offer reliable, repeatable contact closure and provide extremely long service life.

Side Rotary Rod Actuator

switches, models include fixed or adjustable rod length and resting angle,
adjustable head, and nylon loop styles.
360 Degree Rod & Spring
Limit switches with 360 degree rod and spring actuators activate when the top-mounted actuator is pushed past a certain angle in any direction. The incorporated spring allows the actuator to return to the original position once the object is no longer detected. Available in types ranging from compact-sized to heavy-duty IEC and NEMA-rated switches, select models offer a non-marring polyamide tip that slides easily over most surfaces.
Pull Action
IEC limit switches
with pull action activate when a cable attached to the switch actuator is
pulled. Although these momentary switches are not suitable for E-stop
applications requiring safety ratings, these are useful as pilot devices for
simple start/stop control or signaling applications.
Limit Switch Accessories
Limit switch accessories include cable-pull components for pull-action switches, replacement lever arms for certain ABM and ABP series limit switches, replacement snap- and slow-action contact blocks for IEC switches, and protective terminal enclosures for IDEM micro limit switches.
