Alternating relays are used in special applications to optimize load usage by equalizing the run time of two loads. These 120 VAC relays are available in SPDT or DPDT contact configurations, in panel or DIN rail mounting options, and offer an onboard switch for alternating or single-load operation.
Alternating relays provide significant cost savings and vastly increase equipment life by equalizing the run time of two loads in
standby and lead/lag applications such as pumps, compressors, air conditioning, or refrigeration systems.
Use the AR-TL series 10A relays for a duty/standby system arrangement:
Only one load runs at a time
The standby device is a backup in case the first unit fails
The alternating relay swaps the duty and standby loads to ensure even wear and prolong system life
A three-position selector switch allows the unit to alternate the two loads as normal, or lock the relay to one load or the other
Use the ARX-TL series 10A relays for a duty/assist (lead/lag) system arrangement:
In a traditional lead-lag pump system, the lead pump runs by itself and is designed to handle the full system load the majority of the time
However, if the demand on the system is too great, the lag pump is also started to meet the increased demand
The alternating relay switches the lead and lag pumps to ensure even wear and prolong system life
A three-position selector switch allows the unit to alternate the two loads as normal, or lock the relay to always operate the same load first each time
