Thermostats and hygrostats are used to regulate temperature and humidity inside an enclosure. Electronic and mechanical models are available, with fixed or adjustable setpoints to fit a wide range of applications.

Depending on the surrounding environment and the sensitivity of the components they protect, many enclosures require either some type of cooling device to dissipate excessive heat, heaters to prevent the formation of condensate or frost. Some enclosures require both.
But heating and cooling devices typically don't need to run continuously. They need to be controlled, both to prevent overheating or overcooling, and to control the energy costs of heating and cooling.
AutomationDirect offers several types of devices to control heating and cooling devices:
Different types of thermostats, hygrostats, and hygrotherms have difference characteristic switching differences and tolerances. Users should take these characteristics into account when selecting a control device for their application.
The compact Smart Sensor electronically measures temperature and humidity and converts the measured data into a standardized analog 4 to 20 mA signal. The converted value signals can be utilized or further processed by a control monitoring unit (PLC control). The Smart Sensor is suitable for use in a wide variety of applications and can be used in harsh environmental conditions, such as wind power.

Electronic hygrotherms sense the ambient temperature and relative air humidity. Depending on the selected contact combination, the hygrotherm will turn a connected device ON or OFF if either the temperature is below the set point, or the humidity is above the set point. Hygrotherms are typically used to control PTC heaters, fan heaters, condensation heaters, or other climate control devices.
