In certain applications, it is more cost-effective to distribute I/O points closer to the devices they control and pass I/O data to/from the controller with a single communication link. The Protos X field I/O system does this using EtherNet/IP or Modbus links between the controller and field I/O.

Protos X Bus Couplers
Serial Modbus RTU, Ethernet Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP bus couplers are available offering connection options to hundreds of industrial control devices including most popular PLCs and SCADA/HMI packages. Protos X bus couplers are available in four configurations.
- The PX-TCP1 and PX-TCP2 offer Modbus TCP protocol over Ethernet
- The PX-TCP2 provides an additional port which can act as a switch to other couplers of the same type
- The PX-EIP1 utilizes EtherNet/IP protocol over Ethernet
- The PX-MOD utilizes Modbus RTU/ASCII protocol over RS-485
The Protos X compact, modular field I/O system
Allows a user to install remote field I/O devices without having to invest in another controller. The unique slim design and low cost of the Protos X I/O makes it the most practical distributed I/O available today. The ultra-slender form factor makes it easy to install on or near machine or application components, saving time and excess field wiring and speeding up troubleshooting. The ultra-compact design makes it perfect for applications where a typical PLC or I/O solution simply would not fit.
PX-TCP1 Bus Coupler
The PX-TCP1 Modbus TCP Server Bus Coupler allows connection of up to 64 terminals per assembly, 255 terminals total, in a Modbus TCP network.
- Communicates using high-level Modbus commands and supports 512 bytes of input data and 512 bytes of output data
- Includes one RJ45 Ethernet 10/100 Base-T port for connection to a Modbus client

PX-TCP2 Bus Coupler
The PX-TCP2 Modbus TCP Server Bus Coupler allows connection of up to 64 terminals in a Modbus TCP network.
- Communicates using high-level Modbus commands and supports 512 bytes of input data and 512 bytes of output data
- Includes two RJ45 Ethernet 10/100 Base-T ports for connection to a Modbus client
- The PX-TCP2 provides an additional port which can act as a switch to other couplers of the same type
PX-EIP1 Bus Coupler
The PX-EIP1 EtherNet/IP Server Bus Coupler allows connection of up to 64 terminals per assembly, 255 terminals total.
- Communicates using EtherNet/IP (supports Implicit Messaging only) and supports 512 bytes of input data and 512 bytes of output data
- The PX-EIP1 module has one RJ45 Ethernet 10/100 Base T port for connection to an Ethernet client.
PX-MOD Bus Coupler
The PX-MOD Modbus RTU/ASCII Slave Bus Coupler allows connection of up to 64 terminals per assembly, 255 terminals total, in a Modbus RTU/ASCII serial network.
- Communicates using high-level Modbus commands and supports 512 bytes of input data and 512 bytes of output data
- Includes one RS-485 D-sub 9-pin port that functions in half duplex for connection to a Modbus master
